Sound Therapy: The New Ancient Healing

HOW SOUND THERAPY WORKS

All cultures around the world and throughout history have used sound to heal themselves and to access their higher awareness.  It was understood that sound was the carrier wave between the world of spirit and the people of earth.  Accessing this profound source of healing was done through “entrainment” using rhythm and song.  We experience this in everyday life when our foot starts to tap to the beat of a song; the foot is entrained to the rhythm of the drums.  Not only do our feet become entrained but so do our brainwaves.  Sound healing has been shown to take the brain into very deep states of awareness, around .5-4 hz per second which is similar to the level of  consciousness reached when the physical body is in a state of deep sleep.  At this place of relaxation the body is able to access much more information on how to repair and heal itself, and the mind has greater access to higher states of awareness and understanding.

SOUND THERAPY IN APPLICATION

Sound therapy, as I practice it, involves the application of harmonics to the body, and the field around the body, in the form of specially designed tuning forks, crystal and Tibetan bowls, and other instruments.

Sound therapy works on the physical anatomy much like acupuncture but without the needles.  It can provide relief from many symptoms, such as releasing trigger points in tight muscles and joints, revitalizing connective tissue, and eliminating fluid stagnation.  On a more subtle energy level, sound therapy assists with restoring inner equilibrium in the right and left hemispheres of the brain, creating an access point for getting in touch with emotional conditions that hinder the healing process, and creating a deep state of relaxation and rejuvenation.

The protocol for each person is very individualized, and the understandings about where to apply sound and with what frequencies is based on many ancient teachings, such as:

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine meridians (energy pathways) and acupuncture points.
  • Harmonic frequencies of the planets and cosmic cycles as understood by the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagorus, mathematician and astronomer/astrologer Johannes Kepler’s, and others of like mind.
  • Astrological understanding of the relationships between the planetary bodies and their effects on the human body and psyche.

Sound healing is truly effective, very relaxing, and one of the most unique forms of bodywork I’ve ever had the pleasure of sharing with my clients.
